The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a true institution in Burgundy, deeply rooted in the history of Puligny-Montrachet. Today spanning a vineyard of approximately 14.5 hectares, the estate is led by the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron. They carry on an invaluable family expertise while favouring sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture. Thanks to a mosaic of prestigious terroirs, the estate produces wines renowned for their great purity and authentic expression.

The vineyard

Located within the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune appellation, this terroir in Burgundy sits at an altitude ranging between 350 and 400 metres. The south-facing plots benefit from optimal sunshine while being sheltered from cold winds. The vines, over forty years old, are deeply rooted in particularly stony clay-limestone soils. This stony composition ensures excellent drainage and releases heat at night, promoting consistent ripening of the grapes and giving the wine a distinctive minerality.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by complex weather conditions, resulting in significant disease pressure in the vineyards. This situation required heightened vigilance and more frequent intervention than usual to preserve the health of the vines. Furthermore, warmer temperatures during the growing season encouraged a substantial accumulation of sugars in the berries, resulting in remarkably rich grapes at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 begins with gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by settling for twelve to twenty-four hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place over four to six weeks in oak barrels aged between one and five years. Malolactic fermentation then occurs at a controlled temperature of 17°C. The wine is aged for eight months on fine lees in barrels, before finishing with three months of rest in stainless steel tanks. A light filtration is carried out before bottling.

Tasting notes

Colour
The glass reveals a beautiful, bright white hue.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white stone fruit, such as peach and pear, intertwined with delicate floral touches reminiscent of linden blossom. Subtle nuances of almond and vanilla, derived from barrel aging, round out the whole.

Palate
The attack, marked by floral notes, gives way to a rich and full mid-palate where white fruit flavours come to the fore. Supported by lovely acidity and remarkable mineral precision, the palate stretches into a lingering finish with hints of almond and delicate oak.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this white wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. This wine can be enjoyed young, but also has the ageing potential to be cellared until around 2029.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with fish, seafood, or raw preparations such as ceviche or sushi. It will also enhance roasted poultry, white meats in creamy sauces, as well as vegetable-based dishes such as tarts or veloutés.
