Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Santenay 1er Cru "Beaurepaire" 2023 Remoissenet Père et Fils
Tasting Notes
Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out with notes of citrus and floral touches, enriched by aromas of ripe fruit. Over time, this profile evolves toward nuances of honey and peach.
Palate
The palate reveals a pronounced mineral structure and beautiful breadth. The balance between precise acidity and a generous fruity expression stretches into a persistent, saline finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with regional poultry such as Bresse chicken. Its mineral backbone and citrus notes also enhance seafood, particularly lobster and oysters, as well as noble white fish served with a butter or citrus-based sauce.
Service and Storage
For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served between 12 and 16°C, with the recommendation to open or decant it 30 to 60 minutes beforehand. This Santenay 1er Cru "Beaurepaire" 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth but also boasts excellent aging potential, with cellaring possible until around 2038.
The Mineral Precision of a Great White Wine from Santenay
The Estate
Founded in 1877, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic institution of Burgundy, based in Beaune above fourteenth-century medieval cellars. The estate manages approximately forty hectares of vines spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Since its acquisition in 2005, the estate has been led by a consortium of investors headed by Edward and Howard Milstein, with Pierre-Antoine Rovani serving as president. The estate distinguishes itself through its commitment to biodynamics and the preservation of the authentic expression of its terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Beaurepaire climat is a plot classified as premier cru, located just above the village of Santenay, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. The vines, often old to encourage deep rooting, flourish on the mid-slope, between 300 and 400 meters in altitude. This distinctive terroir rests on clay-limestone and marl soils, giving the grapes a saline identity and remarkable mineral power. The estate applies principles of biodynamic and sustainable viticulture here, favoring limited yields.
The Vintage
The year 2023 stands as one of the hottest in the recent history of Burgundy, even surpassing the temperatures of the previous year. The growing cycle benefited from prolonged sunshine and a steady accumulation of heat from flowering through to harvest. Combined with regular rainfall, these favorable weather conditions allowed for optimal berry development, resulting in a generous harvest and highly accomplished phenolic ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
The cellar operations for this Santenay 1er Cru "Beaurepaire" 2023 are guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention in order to respect the plot's identity. Careful fermentation management and oak barrel aging protocols are designed to preserve the purity of the fruit and the complexity of the terroir before bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
