Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru from Remoissenet Père et Fils
Tasting
Color
The color reveals a brilliant gold enhanced by subtle emerald highlights, the hallmark of the greatest Chardonnays of the appellation.
Nose
The bouquet opens with floral notes of honeysuckle and lilac, accompanied by indulgent aromas of flaky croissant pastry and toasted almond.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals a remarkably smooth, silky texture. Generous flavors of crème brûlée unfold, lifted by a tropical freshness on the retro-nasal finish. Despite its opulence, the wine retains a balanced, harmonious minerality that shapes the finish. The persistence is exceptional, lingering for over 60 seconds.
Food and wine pairing
This white grand cru pairs beautifully with scallops, lobster, and other delicate seafood. It also matches wonderfully with foie gras, caviar, and firm-fleshed fish such as turbot.
Serving and cellaring
Decanting this wine is recommended to allow it to fully express itself. This wine has outstanding aging potential and will develop beautifully until around 2030.
An exceptional Montrachet Grand Cru from a prestigious Burgundy terroir
The estate
Founded in 1877 in Beaune, Remoissenet Père et Fils occupies a historic 14th-century building integrated into the city’s medieval fortifications. Acquired in 2005 by a consortium including brothers Edward and Howard Milstein, Maison Louis Jadot, and Halpern Enterprises, the estate underwent a remarkable qualitative transformation. Today, it is led by Pierre-Antoine Rovani as president, with Bernard Repolt overseeing winemaking and Claudie Jobard as cellar master. The estate owns around 11 hectares of biodynamically farmed vineyards and operates under a dual model as a high-quality négociant and a winegrowing estate. Remoissenet Père et Fils stands out for its exceptional collection of older bottles dating from the 1950s to the 1990s and its privileged relationship with Baron Thénard for Montrachet grapes.
The vineyard
The Montrachet Grand Cru is produced from old vines located on the Chassagne-Montrachet slope, immediately adjacent to the vines of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. This proximity to one of the most respected producers in Burgundy adds to its prestige. The specific terroir of the Chassagne slope lends a unique expression, with remarkable complexity and depth.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru are fermented with native yeasts in 350-liter French oak barrels. The proportion of new oak reaches 100% for this grand cru. The winemaking philosophy rejects any interventionism, favoring a non-interventionist approach to preserve the expression of the terroir.
