Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for Remoissenet Père et Fils Montrachet Grand Cru 2020
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale yellow hue with green highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals remarkable aromatic intensity, with notes of vanilla, freshly peeled almonds and hawthorn. Citrus and white stone-fruit aromas mingle with subtle mineral nuances reminiscent of flint, reflecting the appellation’s limestone terroir.
Palate
On the palate, the wine offers a round, ample texture, balanced by a zesty freshness characteristic of the 2020 vintage. The palate shows fine depth, with flavors of white-fleshed fruits and toasted almonds. The finish stands out for its exceptional aromatic length and a pleasant saline note.
Food and wine pairings
This Montrachet pairs beautifully with fine shellfish such as grilled lobster or pan-seared scallops. It also elevates delicate fish such as sea bass baked in a salt crust or turbot with a refined sauce. Creamy poultry with mushrooms—especially Bresse poularde with morels—makes a classic match. For cheese, opt for aged cooked pressed cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and cellaring
Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 can be enjoyed now, but offers aging potential of around 15 to 25 years. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.
An outstanding Montrachet from Remoissenet in Bourgogne
The estate
Founded in 1877 by Pierre-Alfred Remoissenet, the House of Remoissenet Père et Fils is located in Beaune’s medieval quarter. Acquired in 2005 by American businessman Edward L. Milstein, the estate underwent a major qualitative transformation. Under the leadership of Bernard Repolt and with the talent of winemaker Claudie Jobard, Remoissenet now combines a négociant-éleveur model with around 25 hectares of estate-owned vines. The house has particularly distinguished itself for its white wines and maintains a privileged relationship with the estate of Baron Thénard for access to Montrachet parcels.
The vineyard
Montrachet represents the pinnacle of the hierarchy of white wines from Bourgogne. This grand cru appellation covers around 8 hectares, shared between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Remoissenet vinifies grapes from Baron Thénard’s parcels, the appellation’s second-largest owner with 1.83 hectares on the Chassagne-Montrachet side, immediately adjacent to the vines of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The terroir is characterized by light soils, rich in active limestone and sodium, providing optimal drainage. The vines, replanted between 1936 and 1976, benefit from a south-southeast exposure on a gentle slope.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage in Bourgogne stands out for its exceptional character. The growing season was marked by consistent warmth and extended daylight hours, offset by cool nights that preserved acidity. Harvesting began very early—on August 20 for some winegrowers—setting a historic record for the region. These conditions made it possible to produce white wines of remarkable balance, combining full fruit ripeness, zesty freshness and mineral precision.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. After gentle pneumatic pressing, fermentation took place in barrels with indigenous yeasts. Aging was carried out in 100% new French oak barrels, in keeping with grand cru standards, for 15 to 18 months. The wines were aged on fine lees with minimal intervention, favoring the terroir’s natural expression. No excessive filtration was used in order to preserve aromatic complexity.
