The estate

Founded in 1877 by Pierre-Alfred Remoissenet, the Remoissenet Père et Fils House is located in the heart of Beaune, in a historic 14th-century building. Acquired in 2005 by brothers Edward and Howard Milstein, along with Halpern Enterprises, the House underwent a major transformation under the leadership of Bernard Repolt, former Managing Director of Louis Jadot. Today, the team brings together Pierre-Antoine Rovani, a former collaborator of Robert Parker, and oenologist Claudie Jobard. The house farms around 20 to 25 hectares of estate vineyards and has access to an additional 40 hectares through contracts with selected partner winegrowers. Remoissenet stands out for its rigorous quality-driven approach, its biodynamic practices, and its exceptional collection of more than one million old bottles.

The vineyard

This Volnay Village 2020 comes from a rigorous selection of several parcels located within the appellation, in Côte de Beaune. The vines, 15 to 40 years old, are rooted in typical Volnay soils made up of oolitic limestone, iron-rich clay, and brown marls. Planted at altitudes ranging from 230 to 370 meters, the parcels benefit from southeast-facing exposures that promote optimal ripening while preserving natural acidity. This mosaic of terroirs gives the wine its distinctive minerality and elegance.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Bourgogne is considered exceptional, often described as the best since 2015 in Côte de Beaune. The year was marked by a warm spring and a dry summer, allowing for remarkable fruit concentration. This rare combination of rich ripeness and balanced natural acidity gives the wines classic elegance while maintaining invigorating freshness. Finely grained tannins and beautiful fruit quality define this vintage, creating a harmonious balance that showcases the expression of the terroir.

Vinification and aging

The grapes for Volnay Village 2020 were harvested by hand and rigorously sorted on three separate sorting tables. After destemming, fermentation took place with natural indigenous yeasts in traditional open-top French wood vats, with modern temperature control. Aging was carried out in 228-liter French oak barrels for several months, with a proportion of new oak between 35% and 45%. This moderate approach allows the oak to complement the fruit expression without dominating it, letting the terroir’s characteristics fully shine through.
