Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Perlato del Bosco 2019 from Tua Rita
Tasting
Color
The color displays an intense ruby-red hue, enhanced by concentrated, deep violet highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit, with distinctive notes of wild berries, black cherries and blue flowers. Subtle spicy nuances round out the aromatic profile.
Palate
On the palate, this wine shows a medium to full body, structured by noble, silky tannins. The balance is remarkable, carried by bright acidity that brings freshness and vibrancy. The finish lingers elegantly, revealing a saline, mineral signature characteristic of its coastal terroir.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with grilled meats, especially rabbit and game. It also goes very well with aged cheeses such as pecorino and with pasta served with meat-based sauces.
Serving and cellaring
The Perlato del Bosco 2019 can be enjoyed now, while also offering excellent aging potential for the years to come.
An exceptional coastal Sangiovese from Maritime Tuscany
The estate
Founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti, Tua Rita has established itself as one of the most prestigious estates in Italy. Located in Suvereto in the Val di Cornia in coastal Tuscany, the estate now covers 71 hectares, 50 of which are in production. Following Virgilio’s passing in 2010, management has been led by their daughter Simena and her husband Stefano Frascolla, while the third generation, represented by Giovanni Frascolla, brings a renewed vision. The estate made history by earning the first 100-point score awarded by Robert Parker to an Italian wine with its Redigaffi 2000.
The vineyard
Perlato del Bosco comes from a 4.5-hectare plot planted in 2003 with a Sangiovese clone specifically selected to adapt to the warm, dry Mediterranean climate of the Tuscany coast. Situated between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Metalliferous Hills, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir of clay-limestone soils enriched with manganese and iron. Altitude ranges from 100 to 380 meters, and the vines enjoy cooling sea breezes that create a favorable diurnal temperature range. This exceptional geographic setting gives the wines their distinctly mineral and saline character.
Winemaking and aging
The Perlato del Bosco 2019 grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and then carefully sorted. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in conical wooden vats for 25 to 30 days with controlled pump-overs. Aging lasts about 12 months, split evenly between 35-hectoliter oak vats and 20-hectoliter barrels, allowing harmonious integration without the oak dominating. This approach highlights the expression of the fruit while preserving aging potential.
