Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2023 Albert Bichot

Tasting

Colour

This white wine reveals a beautiful yellow hue with golden highlights, reflecting its maturity and its Burgundian origin.

Nose

The bouquet proves expressive and appealing, dominated by aromas of white flowers accompanied by notes of yellow fruit evoking plum and mirabelle. As it opens up, the nose reveals additional floral accents of rose and violet, paired with a pleasant mineral touch characteristic of the altitude and geological composition of the terroir.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is fresh and bursting with flavour, showing lovely aromatic intensity and a wonderfully persistent fruitiness. Its structure is built on a certain roundness and fullness, offering a perfect balance between power and elegance. The finish is fresh, with notes of menthol and liquorice, and a remarkable length that lingers pleasantly.

Food and Wine Pairing

This Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2023 pairs beautifully with a seafood platter, delicate fish or poultry in a light sauce. It also goes very well with medium-strength cheeses such as Camembert, Saint-Paulin, Morbier or Reblochon.

Service and Storage

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2023 should be served at a temperature of between 14 and 16°C to fully express its fruity structure and delicate aromas. This wine can be enjoyed young to appreciate its exuberant fruitiness and characteristic freshness, or can be cellared until around 2028 depending on storage conditions.

A White Burgundy Combining Freshness and Expression of the Hautes-Côtes Terroir

The Estate

Founded in 1831 in Beaune by Bernard Bichot, the Albert Bichot house embodies nearly two centuries of Burgundian winemaking excellence. Now led by Albéric Bichot, representing the sixth generation, the house owns 107 hectares of vines spread across six exceptional estates covering Burgundy's most prestigious appellations. A pioneer of organic farming in the region, Albert Bichot stands out for its organic certification on five of its six estates and its clear environmental commitment, recently recognised with the title of Red Winemaker of the Year 2025 at the International Wine Challenge.

The Vineyard

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits comes from a regional appellation established in 1961, spanning 20 communes in the Côte-d'Or. This wine-growing area overlooks the Côte de Nuits from the west, with vines situated between 275 and 480 metres in altitude, benefiting from predominantly south, south-east and south-west facing slopes. The vineyard rests on sedimentary limestone and marl formations from the Middle and Upper Jurassic, creating clay-limestone soils. At this altitude, temperatures average 5°C lower than those recorded on the slopes below, and nights are noticeably cooler than days, resulting in grapes that ripen more slowly and give rise to wines marked by freshness, fruitiness and vibrancy.

The Vintage

The 2023 vintage in Burgundy combines exceptional quality with generous volumes, a rare achievement that sets this year apart as truly outstanding. Although bringing unpredictable weather conditions, 2023 benefited from a brilliant late summer that allowed the vines to flourish and fully express their potential. Optimal ripening conditions enabled the grapes to reach a remarkable balance between generosity and freshness, giving the wines heightened appeal and immediate charm.

Winemaking and Aging

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2023 undergoes fermentation-maceration in temperature-controlled oak vats for 18 to 25 days. Aging combines 10 to 30% in oak barrels and 70 to 90% in vats over a period of 8 to 12 months, allowing the wine to retain its fruity freshness while developing the desired complexity. This blended aging approach reflects Albert Bichot's non-interventionist philosophy, relying mainly on vats to preserve the wine's vibrancy while a portion benefits from contact with wood.
