Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Colledilà Gran Selezione 2023 by Barone Ricasoli
Tasting
Colour
Colledilà Gran Selezione 2023 presents a medium red robe with the ruby hue typical of Chianti Classico Sangiovese, neither too dark nor too pale, and displaying beautiful clarity.
Nose
The bouquet opens with notes of raspberry and cherry, accompanied by dog rose and lavender. Mineral and leather touches complete this aromatic palette, adding depth and complexity.
Palate
The palate reveals beautiful concentration carried by a silky texture. The finely grained tannins combine with a lively, balanced acidity to create an elegant and harmonious whole, extending into a long mineral finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
Colledilà Gran Selezione 2023 will pair beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, such as a rack of lamb with herbs or a côte de bœuf, as well as traditional Tuscan dishes like wild boar stew or pasta in slow-simmered tomato sauce. It also works very well with aged hard cheeses, such as Parmesan or Tuscan pecorino.

The Estate
Barone Ricasoli is a Tuscan wine estate whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, marked by a decisive revival in 1993 under the impetus of Francesco Ricasoli, today the owner and president of the estate. Based at Brolio Castle, in Chianti Classico between Florence and Siena, the estate covers approximately 1,200 hectares, including nearly 240 hectares of vines. Barone Ricasoli is recognised as one of the oldest wine estates still in operation in Italy, and stands out for its research into terroirs and its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
Colledilà comes from a single plot located on the hillsides of Brolio, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The soil, a very stony clay-limestone known locally as "alberese", belongs to the Monte Morello geological formation. Rich in calcium carbonate but poor in organic matter, this terroir favours moderate yields and slow ripening, conducive to the concentration and freshness of Sangiovese. The vines, facing south and south-west, benefit from the moderate altitudes typical of the Gaiole area.
Vinification and Ageing
Colledilà Gran Selezione 2023 follows the stylistic continuity of this Tuscan cru, traditionally aged in 500-litre barrels, around 30% of which are new oak. This approach, favoured by Barone Ricasoli in previous vintages, allows gentle micro-oxygenation and a gradual integration of the tannins, while preserving the purity of the fruit and the expression of the limestone terroir.
Grape Variety
Colledilà Gran Selezione 2023 is made from 100% Sangiovese.
