Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2024 from Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a pale yellow or light gold hue, enhanced by brilliant lemony highlights.
Nose
Airy and wonderfully fresh, the bouquet opens with aromas of lemon and passion fruit. It stands out for its pronounced minerality reminiscent of eggshell, accompanied by a lovely saline dimension.
Palate
Energetic and juicy, the palate reveals a structure dominated by citrus and exotic fruit, lifted by subtle hints of spice. The wine charms with its purity, precision and superb balance, underpinned by a persistent mineral tension.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with Bresse poultry in a cream sauce, noble fish such as roast sea bass, or dishes with exotic accents such as salmon with coconut milk and lemongrass. It will also be a perfect match for a platter of soft cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
This Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2024 can be enjoyed in its youth for its tension, but will reveal its full complexity with time. It should be drunk until around 2036.
The pure, vibrant expression of a great Meursault by Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils
The estate
Founded in 1971 in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils is the legacy of seven generations of winegrowers. Having structured the estate and introduced estate bottling, Michel handed over the reins to his son, Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau, who has run the domaine since 1999. Now at the helm of a 12.5-hectare vineyard, he upholds an exacting family expertise. Renowned for its discretion and the precision of its cuvées, the estate stands out for its approach that respects the terroir, with certified organic farming.
The vineyard
This Meursault comes from a tiny 0.54-hectare plot within the Blagny climat, on the border with Puligny-Montrachet. Planted in 1988, these vines thrive at an altitude of between 300 and 360 metres. This historic terroir, already cultivated by Cistercian monks in the 12th century, lies on clay-limestone soils rich in white clay. Benefiting from a very sunny microclimate, a true sun trap, this high-altitude vineyard is farmed organically with biodynamic influences, ensuring hand-harvested grapes of outstanding quality.
Winemaking and ageing
The Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2024 is crafted in keeping with Burgundian tradition, with a minimal-intervention approach. After careful pressing and settling, both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in barrel. The wine is then patiently aged for sixteen months on fine lees in French oak barrels, around 25% of which are new. The preferred use of larger vessels preserves the full aromatic purity of the cuvée before bottling.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
