Fresh and direct, with a mix of red and black cherry fruit laced with floral and apple wood accents. Ends with a light cedar echo. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 22,000 cases made, 70 cases imported.

The weight of this wine does a good job of showing what many of us look for in St-Julien—namely balance and elegance without losing power. The fruit, however, is a little underpowered, certainly compared to the excellent first wine of the vintage.

Dark fruits with a spicy character and licorice, dark chocolate and black olives. Some wet earth, too. Medium-bodied, polished and textured with fine-grained tannins and a juicy fruit core underneath. Flavorful and attractive with a creamy finish. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Les Fiefs de Lagrange has a very capable bouquet with crisp blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and light gravelly scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, fleshy tannins. Rounded, smooth in texture and not amazingly complex, there is decent length and purity. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Fresh red fruity nose, a medium-bodied elegant profile with supple texture, nicely rounded with juicy red fruit flavours and a rounded finish.

Purple with a ruby rim. Delicate bouquet of blackcurrant, licorice and lilac notes. On the mid-palate, a soft texture, finely sandy extract, supportive tannins, and a straightforward body. Aromatic finish with sour cherry juice and subtle graphite notes.

Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2020 has a deep garnet-purple color. It skips out with open, uncomplicated scents of black cherries and cassis, plus hints of spice cake, dried flowers, and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, the palate is vibrant and refreshing, with soft tannins and a spicy kick to the finish.

A nose of summer fruits, strawberry, and cranberry. Linear and harmonious on the palate, a very fine second wine with a velvety texture.
