Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Rochegrès Domaine de Rochegrès 2022 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Nose
The nose is intense and refined, dominated by ripe red fruits such as cherry and small berries, before evolving towards floral nuances of rose and potpourri. Spicy notes complete this palette, with a touch of blood orange adding a slightly tangy dimension, before giving way, with time, to hints of forest floor.
Palate
The palate seduces with its generosity and roundness, carried by elegant, powdery tannins. The structure, at once fleshy and lithe, reveals a fine mineral density inherited from the granitic soil. The finish stands out for its length, purity and balance, combining power and delicacy.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine will be an ideal match for red meats, whether roasted or grilled, as well as full-flavoured poultry. It also pairs very well with soft cheeses, offering a harmonious contrast between the richness of the fruit and the milky character of the cheese.
Serving and Cellaring
It is recommended to serve the Rochegrès 2022 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, in order to preserve all the freshness of its fruit and the precision of its minerality.
Other Characteristics
The wine has an alcohol content of 14%.

The Estate
Founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie, the house of Albert Bichot settled in Beaune in 1912, where it remains today under the direction of Albéric Bichot. This independent family-owned house has gradually built up a group of six estates spanning Burgundy from north to south, as far as Beaujolais. The Domaine de Rochegrès, located in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, illustrates this desire to extend its Burgundian expertise to a Gamay grand cru, managed with the same rigour as its vineyards in the Côte d'Or.
The Vineyard
The Rochegrès cuvée comes from a 2.20-hectare plot located in the heart of the climat of the same name, in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. The vines, aged 80 to 100 years, are planted in very pure, very poor pink granite soil, where the bedrock surfaces in the middle of the vineyard. Facing mainly south-east, they must drive their roots deep to find the nutrients they need, which gives the wine its density and mineral complexity.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes for this Beaujolais wine are hand-harvested, then vinified in open vats at controlled temperature for approximately 18 days. Ageing then takes place, 60% in 350-litre barrels and 40% in vats, over a period of 10 to 12 months, combining structure with the preservation of the aromatic purity of the Gamay.
