Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Vergers" 2024 by Au Pied du Mont Chauve

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue evolving towards a light golden yellow.

Nose
The nose reveals aromas of white-fleshed fruits, such as peach and apricot, mingled with delicate notes of white flowers like acacia and hawthorn. A mineral touch and subtle buttery nuances complete this bouquet.

Palate
Ample and precise, the palate combines roundness and vibrancy. It is underpinned by a saline minerality typical of its limestone terroir, extending into a long finish marked by a pleasant touch of bitterness.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with shellfish such as roasted lobster, fish in sauce, delicate white meats such as poultry with morels, or pan-seared foie gras and goat's cheese.

Serving and Cellaring

For optimal enjoyment, the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Vergers" 2024 is best served at a temperature of between 11 and 14°C. This wine can be cellared and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2034.

Other Characteristics

This wine is currently offered en primeur, with delivery expected in early 2027.

The Elegance and Minerality of a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru

The Estate

Founded in the late 2000s, the Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate embodies the precision of Burgundy. Now led by Francine Picard, the estate spans thirty-five hectares of vineyards across the appellations of the Côte de Beaune. A true laboratory for sustainable viticulture, the estate stands out for its biodynamic approach and rigorous plot-by-plot selection. Francine Picard continues a family heritage established in 1951, combining respect for this historic terroir with innovative environmental practices to craft wines with a strong sense of identity.

The Vineyard

The "Les Vergers" climat, located within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, benefits from an east-facing exposure on a very stony slope. Once planted with fruit trees, this plot rises to an altitude ranging between 220 and 340 metres. The vines, averaging around fifty years of age, thrive on shallow soils composed of stony limestone, clay, chalk and traces of iron. The estate cultivates this terroir according to biodynamic principles, without official certification, in order to foster soil life and enhance the mineral expression of the grapes.

Winemaking and Ageing

The harvest is entirely done by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the berries. The winemaking of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Vergers" 2024 is deliberately minimalist and natural, relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts. To meet recent climatic challenges and preserve the purity of the fruit, the estate now favours larger barrels. The wine is then aged for fifteen months in Burgundian oak barrels, with 30% new oak and 70% barrels previously used for one or more vintages.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
