What is the history of the estate?
A centuries-old history
Bearing witness to an extraordinary historical legacy, the estate is one of the essential references of Chablis in Burgundy. The architectural heritage of the estate provides irrefutable proof: by vinifying and ageing its wines in the former monastery "l’Obédiencerie de Chablis," it pays tribute to more than 1,000 years of history!
As early as 867, the settlement of the abbots of Saint-Martin de Tours in Chablis marked the beginning of the vineyard’s development. The relics of Saint Martin are still kept in the Obédiencerie of Domaine Laroche, where the property’s ageing cellars are located today. In the 15th and 17th centuries, the Obédiencerie de Chablis became a major player in viticulture thanks to the construction of a renowned vineyard. The reputation of the Crus produced by the monks of the Obédiencerie helped to establish the fame of Chablis wines.

Having joined the Advini group in 2009, the estate stands out vintage after vintage for its wines of great precision, reflecting the identity of the Chablis terroir while expressing the uniqueness of each climat.

Climate and exposure
The semi-continental climate of Chablis, characterized by cold winters and hot summers, directly influences the aromatic profile and structure of the wines. The south or southwest exposure of certain plots promotes optimal grape ripening, which is essential for the balance of the wines.
Geology
The unique soil composition, rich in Kimmeridgian marl—a calcareous clay containing fossilized oyster shells—is decisive for the distinctive minerality of Chablis wines. This minerality, combined with the natural freshness provided by the climate, imparts remarkable complexity and elegance to the wines of Domaine Laroche.
Viticultural practices
The estate is committed to environmentally friendly practices aimed at best expressing the unique characteristics of its terroir. The vineyards are managed using agroecological viticulture, following a comprehensive environmental approach. The use of chemical inputs is prohibited, and natural plant-based treatments are employed.
Winemaking
The Burgundy estate distinguishes itself year after year thanks to a passionate team led by cellar master Stéphane Barras. The winemaking approach focuses on the authentic expression of the Chardonnay grape variety and the region’s unique terroir.
Domaine Laroche is committed to meticulous winemaking, beginning with a rigorous selection of the best grapes to ensure the excellence of the wine. Gentle pressing and natural clarification preserve the aromas of the Chardonnay, while fermentation in stainless steel tanks, complemented by a measured use of oak, maintains freshness and enhances the wine’s texture without masking its terroir. Ageing on fine lees and minimizing interventions allow for an authentic and refined expression of both the grape variety and the terroir.

The Grands Crus Les Clos and Blanchots further enrich this exceptional trio, each offering a singular interpretation of the great terroirs of Chablis.
