Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Bouchard Père & Fils' Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2021
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a bright, particularly luminous ruby red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red berries such as cherry and raspberry, accompanied by touches of black fruits like blackcurrant and blackberry. The whole is delicately underscored by subtle spicy, toasted and vanilla nuances.
Palate
The palate offers a silky, velvety texture, supported by smooth, supple tannins. A lovely freshness and perfectly integrated acidity stretch the wine towards a harmonious, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, white meats such as veal or pork fillet, as well as soft-rind cheeses like brie or camembert.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, this Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2021 is best served at a temperature of around 15°C. Approachable in its youth, this wine can also be cellared and enjoyed until around 2028.
The freshness and elegance of a red wine from Savigny-lès-Beaune
The estate
Founded in 1731 in Beaune, the House of Bouchard Père & Fils is a true institution in Burgundy. Having become a wine estate from 1775 onwards, the property today oversees an exceptional 130-hectare vineyard spread across the finest terroirs of the Côte d'Or. Historically based within the celebrated Château de Beaune, the House has belonged since 2022 to the Artémis Domaines group, owned by the Pinault family. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate is currently finalising its conversion to organic farming in order to preserve the authenticity of its climats.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Savigny-Les-Beaune appellation, located to the north of the town of Beaune. The vineyard unfolds across a V-shaped topography, divided by the alluvial cone of the Rhoin. The vines benefit from an ideal exposure and grow on clay-limestone soils, giving the wine a structure that is both refined and assertive, typical of this terroir.
The vintage
The year 2021 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. Following an early budbreak, a severe frost struck the vineyard at the start of April, leading to a significant drop in yields. The growing season then continued with alternating sunny and rainy spells. These climatic challenges required rigorous work in the vineyards right up to the harvest, which began in mid-September.
Winemaking and aging
Given the challenges of the vintage, an extremely meticulous selection of the berries was carried out both in the vineyard and in the winery. This Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2021 was then aged in French oak barrels under carefully controlled conditions. A moderate proportion of new oak was chosen so as not to mask the fruit and to preserve all the freshness and generosity of the juices.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
