Description

Tasting Tips for the 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "La Maltroie" by Bruno Colin

Tasting
Nose
The nose captivates with a nuanced and elegant aromatic palette. Notes of gentle spices intertwine with aromas of candied citrus and stone fruits, enriched by hints of roasted almonds and a subtle floral touch. The whole is distinguished by its refinement and complexity.

Palate
The palate reveals great precision in structure and a texture of remarkable finesse. The dense, flavorful body stretches with persistence, revealing a remarkable aromatic depth, a faithful reflection of the terroir’s expression.

Food and wine pairings
This Premier Cru ideally accompanies noble fish dressed with delicate sauces, tender white meats, or soft-ripened cheeses. It also pairs wonderfully with shellfish or forest-inspired dishes featuring mushrooms.

Serving and cellaring
Serve between 11 and 13°C. Decanting can be beneficial in its youth. Enjoy now or cellar until around 2032.

A great Chassagne-Montrachet white, subtle and full of character

The Estate
The Domaine Bruno Colin was established in 2003 following the division of the family estate Michel Colin-Deleger. After training at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune, Bruno Colin produced his first vintage in 2004. He now cultivates 8.55 hectares across prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Beaune, notably in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay and Dezize-les-Maranges. His approach aims to highlight the freshness and precision of his Chardonnays through demanding viticulture and meticulous winemaking.

The vineyard
This white wine from Bourgogne comes from a 0.55-hectare parcel located in the lieu-dit "Ez Crets" within the La Maltroie climat in Chassagne-Montrachet. The clay-limestone soil, cultivated according to organic principles, hosts vines dating from 1952 to 2023. Soil work is carried out mechanically, and regular plowing promotes active microbial life and better terroir expression.

Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested with meticulous sorting. Winemaking continues with 12 months of aging in 350-liter oak barrels, of which 15–20% are new. A further 4–6 months of maturation in tank precedes bottling, ensuring a beautiful balance between richness and aromatic purity.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
