Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2022 Bruno Colin
Tasting
Colour
Deep, brilliant red in hue, this wine is reminiscent of black cherry.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of black fruit and spice. It also reveals subtle hints of liquorice, violet, peony and rose petals, rounded out by mineral and earthy nuances.
Palate
The attack is bold and dynamic. The palate offers a velvety texture underpinned by refined, well-integrated tannins. Lovely acidity lends structure, while the lingering finish stands out for a chalky note typical of its terroir.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with slow-cooked meats such as braised beef or veal, as well as with poultry served in sauce or caramelised with Asian-inspired flavours. It is also a wonderful match for a platter of mature cheeses such as Brie de Meaux, Reblochon, Cîteaux or Pont-l'Évêque.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2022 at a temperature of around 15°C. Approachable in its youth, this wine also boasts a fine structure that will allow it to age gracefully in the cellar for several years.
Other Characteristics
The alcohol content is 13%. The bottles are sealed with wax, a meticulous finishing touch adopted by the estate to protect the cork and guarantee the wine's quality.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune
The Estate
Founded in 2003 following the division of a historic family estate, Bruno Colin is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy. Representing the eighth generation of winegrowers in his family, Bruno Colin now runs the estate together with his wife, Stéphanie. The vineyard spans eight hectares, divided into thirty plots spread across five villages. Named "Burgundian of the Year" in 2024, the winemaker stands out for his respectful approach to the terroir, vinifying nineteen cuvées separately to express the full singularity of his land.
The Vineyard
The plot of the "Les Gravières" Climat, located within the Santenay appellation, covers 0.39 hectares. South-facing, the vines were planted in 1988. They thrive on clay-limestone soil scattered with stones, with white marl present on the upper part of the slope. The vineyard is cultivated using organic methods, favouring mechanical soil work to promote aeration and soil vitality.
The Vintage
2022 began with a mild winter followed by a gentle spring. The summer season was marked by intense heat. Essential rainfall at the end of June allowed the vines to continue their growth cycle under good conditions. The particularly dry months of July and August favoured optimal ripening of the berries while preserving lovely acidity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for this Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2022 are harvested by hand, with a rigorous double sorting process, first in the vineyard and then on a vibrating sorting table. The bunches are destemmed between 60% and 100%, depending on the characteristics of the harvest. Maceration lasts around two weeks, using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for approximately twelve months in 350-litre French oak barrels (25% new oak), followed by four to six months of refinement in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling.
