The richness and elegance of a great Tuscan red wine
The Producer
The Caiarossa estate is located near the charming medieval village of Riparbella on the west coast of Tuscany, overlooking the sea. The estate stands out for the production of outstanding Italian wines, created in strict harmony with the environment and according to biodynamic principles. Since 2004, it has belonged to the Albada Jelgersma family, who also own Château Giscours in Margaux, an emblematic reference on the Bordeaux Left Bank.
The Vineyard
This Tuscan estate tends a 16-hectare vineyard that slopes gently towards the sea.
The Wine
As the estate's flagship, Caiarossa is an IGT Toscana wine derived from a mosaic of plots and designed to express the richness and uniqueness of great Italian terroirs.
The Vintage
The climate on the Tuscan coast was characterized by a mild winter, a rainy spring, followed by a hot, sunny summer. A period of refreshing rainfall in August allowed for a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. Ideal conditions prevailed during the harvest to gather grapes of outstanding quality, resulting in a vintage with velvety tannins, well-balanced and elegant.
Vinification and Aging
Harvesting is done by hand. Vinification takes place plot by plot in concrete tanks and wooden vats with slow fermentations and gentle extractions. After malolactic fermentation, the blend is created; the wines then age for 14 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet Franc (32%), Syrah (26%), Cabernet Sauvignon (17%), Merlot (12%), Sangiovese (7%), Petit Verdot (5%) and Grenache (1%).
