Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Cuvée Louise "Édition Parcelle" 2008 from Pommery
Tasting
Appearance
The colour reveals a luminous pale yellow hue with lemony highlights, enhanced by an exceptionally fine effervescence that forms a persistent bead.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a beautiful freshness of citrus fruit and white flowers, underpinned by a chalky minerality. Delicate notes of brioche and fresh hazelnut, the result of long ageing, enrich this aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack is precise and taut, delivering a vertical, slender structure. The silky, creamy texture is perfectly balanced by the acidity, leading to a long, saline finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with delicate, briny dishes such as a scallop carpaccio with citrus fruit, a white fish tartare or roasted lobster. It also elegantly accompanies white meats in a light cream sauce or contemporary plant-based dishes.
Serving and Cellaring
Thanks to the beautiful acidity of its vintage, the Cuvée Louise "Édition Parcelle" 2008 has remarkable ageing potential, allowing it to evolve and gain complexity over some fifteen years.
The Pure Expression of a Great Champagne from the House of Pommery
The Estate
Founded in 1836 in Reims, Maison Pommery has left a profound mark on the history of Champagne, notably under the impetus of Jeanne Alexandrine Louise Pommery, who created the first successful brut in 1874. Renowned for its Elizabethan-style architecture and its spectacular Gallo-Roman chalk cellars, the estate now belongs to the Maison Pommery & Associés group, led by Paul-François Vranken. The house is distinguished by its style focused on purity and freshness, as well as by its strong commitment to sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from a rigorous parcel-by-parcel selection within the finest terroirs of Champagne. Set on deep chalk soils, the vineyard benefits from increasingly environmentally friendly viticultural practices, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC), which promote biodiversity and soil preservation.
The Vintage
The 2008 vintage is recognised as one of the finest of its decade. The climatic conditions produced grapes of ideal physiological ripeness while retaining high levels of acidity, resulting in wines of great freshness, exceptional tension and remarkable purity.
Vinification and Ageing
The Cuvée Louise "Édition Parcelle" 2008 benefits from a long maturation on the lees in the heart of the house's historic chalk cellars. This extended ageing, combined with a very low dosage, refines the effervescence and develops great aromatic complexity while preserving the wine's natural tension.
