Decanter

Picked through to 4 September to get as much ripeness as possible – reaching 14% alcohol with a low pH of 3.11 – a sensational dry white for the vintage! First you get classically Sauvignon Blanc aromas bright, lifted, and immediately expressive, marked by zesty lime, citrus peel, and a distinctive hint of margarita–like salinity that adds both charm and precision. Then comes the palate: a harmonious combination of freshness and breadth with an attack crisp and vibrant, yet quickly expanding into a more generous, rounded mid–palate thanks to both Sémillon in the blend as well as lees stirring. The wine, ageing in 10% new oak, delivers a satisfying sense of volume often missing in leaner vintages. And the added width never compromises its energy; instead, it enhances complexity and drinkability. The saline–citrus character carries through to a clean, persistent finish, reinforcing balance and structure.

Honeysuckle, white peach, lemon curd are there with just a swirl in the perfume. The palate is sweet, juicy, and lush, with honeysuckle accents that add sweetness to the yellow fruits on the mid-palate and finish. The wine blends 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon. 14% ABV. Drink from 2027-2034. 93-93 Pts

Yves Beck

The finesse and freshness of Carbonnieux’s bouquet suggest subtlety and complexity. Nuances of mirabelle plum are complemented by notes of citrus and flinty minerality. On the palate, the wine shows a certain breadth, as well as freshness and, above all, lovely aromatic intensity, leading to a lingering finish. A Carbonnieux with real character, to be enjoyed both young and with further age!

Vinum

Fresh nose of white grapefruit, flinty notes and apricot; crisp, lively palate with delicate fruit and fine acidity, showing great drinkability and harmony, with a pleasantly long finish. A safe bet.

The sunny and balanced expression of a great Pessac-Léognan wine

The estate
Founded in 1234, Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the outskirts of the city, this historic property covers 200 hectares, including 100 hectares of vineyards. Now managed by the Perrin family (Philibert, Eric, and Christine), the estate has established its name among the most prestigious in the region. Recognized as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1959 for both its red and white wines, the château stands out for its strong environmental commitment and exceptional terroir, producing wines of great elegance.

The vineyard
The vineyard dedicated to white wines covers 45 hectares within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, thrive on a mosaic of complex soils composed of Garonne gravel and clay-limestone. The estate is a true pioneer of sustainable viticulture, with a quarter of its plots farmed organically.

The vintage
The year 2025 is marked by extreme climatic conditions. After an early budburst at the end of March and a particularly dry spring, the growing cycle progressed steadily. Flowering occurred quickly and evenly in mid-May. The summer proved very hot and almost rainless. Some welcome rainfall in mid-July encouraged a complete and rapid veraison, before a scorching early August and a low grape load accelerated ripening.

Winemaking and aging
Manual harvests took place from August 19 to September 4. In the cellar, Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2025 undergoes slow and gentle pneumatic pressing under inert gas, followed by cold settling. The must is then divided into 23 distinct batches. Aging lasts 10 months, with regular bâtonnage, in 225- and 400-liter barrels as well as 30- and 50-hectoliter foudres, including 10% new oak. Alcohol: 14% vol.

Grape varieties
Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2025 is composed of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Sémillon.
