Description
The Mineral and Elegant Expression of a White Wine from Marsannay
The Estate
Founded in 1900, Château de Marsannay is an unmissable figure in Burgundy, located at the gates of Dijon. Since its acquisition in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has taken a decisive turn towards agroecology, obtaining organic certification in 2022. Spanning 40 hectares, a large part of which lies on the appellation's finest climats, the estate is committed to revealing the identity of each terroir through a minimal-intervention approach. Today, under the technical direction of Sylvain Pabion, the estate produces wines that reflect the full richness of their origin.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from a 1.2-hectare plot located on the climat Champs Perdrix, in the south of the Marsannay appellation. Reaching an altitude of 350 metres, this area is one of the highest in the zone. The vines, farmed organically, thrive on shallow soils composed of Comblanchien limestone and clay. This privileged geographical location, combined with a fine south-east exposure, favours optimal ripening while preserving lovely freshness.
The Vintage
2024 was marked by particular climatic conditions in Burgundy. Over the course of this growing cycle, the white grape varieties withstood the weather challenges particularly well, coming through the year with greater ease than the reds and yielding grapes of fine quality.
Winemaking and Aging
For the Marsannay Village "Champs Perdrix" 2024, the whole clusters undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. The musts then benefit from around twelve hours of static settling with no enzyme addition, before a low-temperature alcoholic fermentation. Aging takes place in a temperature-controlled underground cellar, with 11 months in oak barrels (20% new) on total lees, accompanied by regular lees stirring as needed. The wine then rests for 7 months in tank before bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Marsannay Village "Champs Perdrix" 2024 Château de Marsannay
Tasting
Colour
The glass glows with a pale gold hue, particularly bright.
Nose
The bouquet reveals lovely complexity, opening onto aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit such as peach and apricot, delicately underscored by spicy notes.
Palate
The attack is soft and generous. The palate is then guided by a tangy backbone and a driving minerality that lingers into a distinctly saline finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate dishes such as avocado and salmon verrines or a filet mignon in pastry crust. It will also wonderfully complement river fish such as pike-perch or pike, as well as refined white meats and cheeses.
Service and Storage
The Marsannay Village "Champs Perdrix" 2024 can be enjoyed young, but also has ageing potential, allowing it to develop in the cellar until around 2031.
