Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos des Quarts" Monopole 2024 from Château des Quarts
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine reveals a luminous pale-yellow hue, adorned with bright reflections.
Nose
Highly sophisticated, the aromatic bouquet weaves together notes of citrus and stone fruits with delicate hints of white flowers, all underpinned by a deep mineral imprint.
Palate
Combining richness and tension, the palate offers a concentrated, energetic texture. The fruity flavours are perfectly balanced by a beautiful acidity, stretching into a lingering, subtly chalky finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted white fish, fine shellfish, poultry in a cream and mushroom sauce, or aged cheeses such as a mature Comté.
The elegance of a great Burgundy Chardonnay at the heart of Pouilly-Fuissé
The estate
Born in 2012 from the unprecedented partnership between Olivier and Corinne Merlin and Dominique Lafon, Château des Quarts embodies the ambition of raising the Mâconnais to the pinnacle of Burgundy. These winegrowers have joined their expertise to sublimate a historic terroir. Run as an independent entity, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its uncompromising quest for precision. Today, the domaine is renowned for producing white wines of rare elegance, rivalling the most prestigious regional benchmarks.
The vineyard
Enclosed by stone walls, this 2.65-hectare monopole overlooks the Saône valley from the village of Chaintré. Facing east and south-east, the vines grow on a hillside of clay-limestone soils, ideal for crafting a great Pouilly-Fuissé. The vineyard is home to centenarian vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1917. Cultivation is carried out with the utmost respect for nature: the absence of synthetic products, horse ploughing and manual harvesting guarantee grapes of remarkable purity.
Vinification and ageing
The berries are vinified with minimal intervention to allow the terroir to express itself fully. The process takes place in the cellars of La Roche-Vineuse, where technical expertise helps to preserve the freshness and aromatic clarity of the fruit throughout its elaboration.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
