Description
The balance and finesse of a Bordeaux Blanc Sec
The estate
Located in Barsac, around forty kilometres from Bordeaux, Château Doisy-Védrines ranks among the prestigious Second Growths of the 1855 Classification. While its walls date back to the 16th century, it was truly in 1846, when it was acquired by the Castéja family, that this 51-hectare estate gained new momentum. It is now managed by Guillaume Lefebvre, under the direction of Olivier Castéja.
The vineyard
Produced under the Bordeaux Blancs Secs appellation, this cuvée comes from the illustrious Haut-Barsac terroir. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, take root on a fine knoll combining red clays and fine gravel, resting on a bedrock of starfish limestone. This singular geology naturally lends the berries a crystalline purity and a most distinctive elegance.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand within the estate's plots. In the cellar, the bunches are gently pneumatically pressed. The must then begins its fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is finally partially aged in oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage on the lees, which gives it its velvety texture and aromatic depth.
Grape varieties
This wine is the result of a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon.
