The discreet elegance of a great Pomerol merlot
The estate
Although the winegrowing family has been present on these lands since 1772, the official creation of Château La Fleur de Gay as an independent estate dates back to 1982, under the impetus of Noël Raynaud. Today, this 2.44-hectare micro-vineyard is managed by Chantal Raynaud-Lebreton. This exceptional wine has established itself as a benchmark property in Bordeaux, internationally renowned for its unique parcel-based approach that enhances the identity of its terroir.
The vineyard
Covering a very limited area of 2.44 hectares, the vineyard is located on the upper terrace of the Pomerol appellation. It is divided into three distinct parcels, each receiving tailored care: "La Fleur" on pure blue clay, "Gay" composed of Günz-era gravel on clay, and "Groupey" combining large-grain gravel with a blue clay subsoil. Yields are strictly limited to promote grape concentration, and harvesting is carried out entirely by hand.
The vintage
The conditions of this year particularly highlighted the influence of blue clay in the final blend. The specific sectors of La Fleur and Groupey benefited greatly from the year’s weather conditions, leading to optimal manual harvests carried out on September 4 and 5, 2025.
Winemaking and ageing
After macerations generally lasting 34 to 35 days and a malolactic fermentation partly carried out in oak, Château La Fleur de Gay 2025 benefits from meticulous vinification. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with 40% new barrels and 60% one-fill barrels, enhancing its complexity while preserving its refinement. Alcohol: 13.56% vol.
Grape variety
This Château La Fleur de Gay 2025 is made exclusively from merlot.
