    Vinum

As is often the case en primeur, still marked by oak, ripe fruit, floral notes, pleasantly complex; delicate on the palate, fine tannins, well-judged acidity, very balanced with good length. A successful Laroze that will be enjoyable early on.

    Decanter

Sweet black fruit with mouth-filling tannins as well as cool acidity. A combination of blueberries and cherries with liquorice, mint, wet stone and graphite elements. It’s soft and creamy with a touch of spiced bite to the finish. A little lean and straight, it stays in the centre of the palate, but nothing overdone here, still with some underlying power and persistence. Dark and serious but well made with focus. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

    James Lawther MW

50% Merlot, 36.5% Cabernet Franc, 11.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. Expressive fruit on the nose and palate. Juicy and already open. Fine, integrated tannins. Fresh, firm finish. (JL)

Medium-bodied, vibrant, and energetic, the wine is bright, fruity, and reserved in character, finishing with red plums, cherries, cocoa, espresso, and spearmint on the back end. Drink from 2027-2039. 90-92 pts

    Le Figaro Vin

All purple, the bouquet is nothing but ripe small fruits (raspberry, strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant) and a warm sensation like a June sun. More intense on the palate, it shows moderate acidity mellowed by notes of ripe red fruits (morello cherry, wild strawberry). Velvety tannins tame the tangy finish.

    Vertdevin

The nose is fruity, aromatic, and offers aromatic depth, spices, and a certain airy, velvety feel. There are notes of blackberry, nutmeg, and, more subtly, violet, joined by touches of incense, pulpy red cherry, fine hints of bright small fruits, discreet hints of spices, a discreet touch of red pepper, and a subtle, almost anise-like note in the background. The palate is beautifully juicy, fruity, fine, elegant, and taut, with minerality, lovely fruit brightness, energy, indulgence, a delicate touch, creaminess (in freshness), and a fresh-driven frame. The mid-palate is fresh, fruity, and mellow. On the palate, this wine reveals notes of roasted-juicy cherry, bright red berries, and, more lightly, vibrant cassis, with touches of bright raspberry as well as fine hints of lilac, cornflower, liquorice stick, cocoa nibs, toasted notes, and toasted almond. A discreet touch of anise, almost eucalyptus, in the background. The tannins are finely chalky. Good length.

    Description

The refinement and complexity of an emblematic Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion

    The Estate
Founded in 1882, the Château Laroze is a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion. Located 1.5 km northwest of the village, this single-block vineyard, owned since its origins by the Gurchy-Meslin family, winegrowers since 1610, benefits from a clay-limestone terroir at the foot of the slope.

    The vineyard
The 27-hectare vineyard extends in one piece over an exceptional terroir in Saint-Émilion. The estate is subject to optimal parcel management and a coherent expression of the terroir.

    Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested grapes. Winemaking in stainless steel and cement vats. Aged in new barrels (65%) as well as in jars and vats.

    Blend
Château Laroze stands out for its blend of Merlot (62%), Cabernet Franc (28%), Cabernet Sauvignon (8%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Malbec (0.8%).
