Description
The precision and balance of a taut yet rounded Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Château Les Grandes Murailles, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, is located near Clos Fourtet, also owned by the Cuvelier family. Building on the experience of this great right-bank terroir of Bordeaux, the Cuvelier family is driven by the desire to produce timeless wines built on finesse, offering great aging potential.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Les Grandes Murailles covers a 1.46-hectare plot in the heart of Saint-Émilion. It is planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation. The vines are managed with respect for natural balances through sustainable farming.
The vintage
After a mild autumn and a cool start to winter, temperatures rose leading to an early bud break on March 20. The cool, wet spring was followed by a hot, dry summer, resulting in a homogeneous and rapid véraison. The diurnal temperature variations enhanced the aromatic quality of the berries, which reached perfect maturity for harvest.
Vinification and ageing
Harvest on September 26. Fermentation in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and in amphorae. Gentle extraction through pumping over and punch-downs. Maceration for 26 days. Malolactic fermentation in tanks and barrels. Aged for 16 to 18 months, with 50% in new barrels, 30% in one-wine barrels, and 20% in amphorae.
Grape variety
100% Merlot.
