Château Poujeaux 2022

Fresh nose, floral notes, red-fruited, currants, fine roasted nuances, a hint of herbal character in the background; juicy palate, very elegant, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, full of tension, dense yet feather-light, long-lasting finish. A great Poujeaux.

Fleshy and generous in feel though reserved overall in style, with wet clay, tobacco and worn cedar notes gently infusing cassia and cherry purée flavors. Steady finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2032. 20,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported.

Massy and filling, the tannins are chewy and chalky, giving a bit of dryness to the mid-palate while the cool freshness extends to the finish. Feels a little overdone, or the oak hasn’t quite integrated fully yet. Tobacco, leather, clove, liquorice, and flashes of alcohol on the finish.

This is really structured and tannic, but the phenolics are very polished and creamy. You smell blackcurrants and minerals with fresh herbs, such as thyme and bay leaf. It's medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a long, intense finish. This will age beautifully. Excellent value for a cellar-worthy wine. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Wait until 2030 for this to soften.

The 2022 Poujeaux has a straightforward bouquet with a little more depth of fruit compared to the ’22 La Tour Carnet. Fine delineation, quite classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a ‘cool’ opening, briny and saline with fine tannins and decent depth on the finish. Quite more-ish. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Ripe, fruity, and packed with layers of dark, deep, creamy blackberries, currants, and cherries, the wine is medium-bodied on the palate, long, and supple on the back end. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2026–2045.

Deep ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Ripe cassis, black cherries, Cabernet bouquet, fine herbal savouriness in the underlay. Good complexity, dark berries, nougat, firm, supporting tannins, toasty aromas on the finish, has length and certain ageing potential.

Deep ruby-hued, the 2022 Château Poujeaux is based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. It offers a wonderful perfume of ripe black cherries and hints of cassis as well as sappy spring flowers and subtle tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and no hard edges, this might be one of the greatest Poujeaux made. I would drink bottles over the coming two decades, but it will last even longer.

Delicate bouquet, fresh blackcurrant, violet, light tobacco and elderberry jelly. On the taut, athletic palate, a creamy texture, balanced tension, and a tightly knit tannic framework. In the concentrated, aromatic finish: dark cherry, sloe juice, and dark minerality – the best wine from Moulis.

Has an old school heart to it, as is so often the case with Poujeaux, then opens deftly to show richly textured brambled blackberry and loganberry fruits, waves of cocoa-dusted almonds and liquorice root, acidity pretty high on the finish.

On the nose, a light dusty veil gently fades, revealing relaxed, sweet blue fruit. The palate is captivating, with perfectly ripe fruit that caresses the mouth. A fluid, balanced whole.

Poujeaux’s bouquet unfolds with detail and range. Shades of red berries coupled with notes of licorice and candied fruit combine ripeness and freshness. Creamy and suave on the attack, the wine has body and muscular, fine-grained tannins. Elegance prevails on the finish, which is fruity and persistent. A high-flying Poujeaux that will reward patience.

The nose is spicy and peppery. It reveals notes of blackberry, violet and, more lightly, camphor, combined with hints of spices and a subtle almost-herbal touch. The palate is nicely guided, supple and fresh, with indulgence and a lively backbone. It expresses notes of pulpy blackberry, crushed strawberry and, more lightly, crushed red berries, complemented by hints of cornflower and licorice stick, as well as touches of chocolate, toast and a delicate hint of vanilla. Greediness, lovely definition, texture and substance.

Logo on the cork: CB Dark, intense colour. Very aromatic nose with ripe, subtle fruit, becoming creamier when the glass is swirled. Precise on the attack, delicate on the mid-palate—also a little discreet—the wine develops into a flavoursome, very pleasant profile with medium length.

A tight black currant aroma marks this wine. The blackberry flavors are enhanced by the polished texture from the wood aging. The finish brings out chocolate and spice flavors. Drink from 2028.
