A Rhône Valley Viognier with powerful and seductive aromas
The estate
Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Philippe Delas, the Delas Frères House has established itself as one of the Rhône Valley's major producers. Since 1993, it has been owned by the Rouzaud family, owners of the Roederer Group, who have invested significantly in modernizing the facilities. Under the direction of Jacques Grange, oenologist and Cellar Master since 1997, the House oversees thirty hectares of vineyards spread across several prestigious appellations. Delas Frères stands out for its philosophy of allowing the terroir to express itself naturally while maintaining exceptional quality.
The vineyard
La Galopine stems from a blend of four plots located in Vérin, Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Chavanay, and Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf, in the Condrieu appellation. These vineyards benefit from exceptional terroirs where Viognier flourishes, expressing all the aromatic richness characteristic of this appellation.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in the Northern Rhône Valley was marked by remarkable quality. Despite an episode of intense winter frost, milder spring conditions favored the development of the vines. Viognier particularly benefited from this vintage, revealing beautiful freshness, a lively aromatic character, and good balance, producing structured, elegant, and fruity wines.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for La Galopine 2021 are harvested manually and transported to the cellar in small crates. Gentle pressing produces a must that ferments at low temperatures between 16 and 18°C in temperature-controlled vats to preserve the complex Viognier aromas. A portion of the harvest, up to 20%, is fermented in new oak barrels. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees to enrich its structure while preserving the exceptional varietal aromas. Bottling takes place around mid-April.
