Located at the gates of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate extends over some of the most prestigious terroirs of the appellation and benefits from a protected natural environment, backed by a priory steeped in history.

A secular history

The estate's history begins in 1880, when Édouard Amouroux inherited a plot housing an oratory dedicated to Saint Mark. In 1926, his son Léonce renamed the property "Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes", thus officializing the brand and its famous Art Deco label, which remains unchanged to this day. Since then, the estate has established itself as a symbol of prestige in the wine world, enjoying international recognition.

A mosaic of terroirs at the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The vines benefit from ideal exposure on varied terroirs, taking advantage of the hot and sunny climate of the Rhône Valley, while being protected by the local topography. At Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate rests on three types of soils: rolled pebbles, safres and limestone fragments, enriching the complexity of L'Oratoire des Papes wines. The Mediterranean climate, with its hot summers, mild winters and the mistral, ensures optimal ripeness of the grapes while limiting diseases. The estate practices viticulture respectful of biodiversity and traditional grape varieties, with minimal human intervention to let the terroir express itself. Finally, constant efforts are deployed for ecological balance and soil sustainability.

Wines reflecting the purity of their terroir

Vinification and aging take place in historic cellars, partially troglodytic, located under the priory. The style of L'Oratoire des Papes is characterized by its elegance, depth and ability to reflect the purity of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir. The reds are distinguished by their power, velvety structure, balance and aromatic richness. As for the whites, they are renowned for their freshness, minerality and excellent aging potential.
