The elegance and freshness of a Marsannay wine by Domaine Bruno Clair
The estate
Founded in 1979 by Bruno Clair, Domaine Bruno Clair is a benchmark in Burgundy. Located across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, the estate now spans 27 hectares. Currently run by Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle, and their children Edouard, Margaux and Arthur, the domaine stands out for its deep respect for terroir and its plant heritage. Rejecting dogma, the family favours a demanding and sustainable approach to viticulture in order to produce wines of remarkable precision.
The vineyard
The "Les Vaudenelles" plot spans 1.27 hectares within the Marsannay appellation. Reaching an altitude of 320 metres on a south-east-facing slope, this terroir benefits from ideal morning sunlight. The vines, planted in 1976, thrive on very fine, well-draining soils composed of clay, gravel and sand, resting on a bedrock of marl and fossil-rich limestone. This unique geology gives the grapes a distinctive mineral expression.
The vintage
2022 offered mild weather conditions, favouring optimal ripening of the berries. Low disease pressure allowed for a respectful approach to viticulture, marking the estate's first year of organic certification. The harvested grapes showed a high skin-to-juice ratio, ensuring a lovely phenolic concentration while preserving great natural freshness.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Marsannay Village "Les Vaudenelles" 2022 begins with fermentation in wooden vats incorporating 10 to 20% whole clusters, with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction over ten to fifteen days. The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, around 25% of which are new, to refine its structure while preserving the delicacy of its fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir
