The estate
Domaine Coursodon was founded in the late 19th century in Mauves, in the Rhône Valley, the historic cradle of the Saint-Joseph appellation. Run today by Pierre and Jérôme Coursodon, who represent the family's fifth generation, the estate extends over approximately 16 hectares, all located within Saint-Joseph. Specialising exclusively in red and white wines of this appellation, the estate tends its vines by hand on steep granite slopes, following a philosophy of precision summed up by Jérôme Coursodon: "it's the sum of small details that makes the difference".
The vineyard
The Paradis Saint-Pierre plot lies above the village of Mauves, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation, on a south- and south-east-facing slope. The soils are granitic and shallow, predominantly acidic, but also contain fragments of limestone that add an extra mineral nuance. This early-ripening terroir, planted with old vines worked entirely by hand because of the steep gradient, favours full ripeness while preserving the freshness of the grapes.
Vinification and ageing
For Paradis Saint Pierre 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested, with a first sorting carried out directly in the vineyard, followed by a second sorting on arrival at the winery. After partial destemming, vinification takes place in tank with a maceration that extracts finesse and aromatic complexity without excess tannins. The wine is then aged for several months in oak barrels, lending it structure and depth while respecting the expression of the fruit.
Grape varieties
This cuvée is made from 100% Syrah, known locally as "Sérine", the emblematic and only grape variety of the red Saint-Joseph appellation.
