Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Crozes-Hermitage Domaine Blanc 2024 Domaine du Colombier
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful pale yellow hue, illuminated by delicate golden highlights.
Nose
Distinctive and remarkably complex, the nose opens with unusual aromas evoking brioche, dough and yeast. It then reveals subtle floral notes, heady spice aromas and fresh lychee, all underpinned by a characteristic mineral backbone.
Palate
Elegant and endowed with a slightly rich texture that reflects its depth, the palate is perfectly balanced by a liveliness reminiscent of lemon juice. As the tasting unfolds, fruity flavours of white peach, grapefruit and stone fruit emerge. The structure is clean and precise, stretching into a long mineral finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with fish in a light sauce or seafood such as scallops and lobster. It also goes very well with hard aged cheeses, roasted root vegetables, as well as flavourful meats like duck. Its versatility allows it to enhance Mediterranean cuisine or subtly spiced dishes, such as a mild coconut milk curry.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, this Crozes-Hermitage Domaine Blanc 2024 should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, without prior decanting in order to preserve its delicate aromas. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2030.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13% vol. To preserve its full complexity, character and natural structure, it is bottled without fining or filtration. It has also been praised by critics with a score of 90/100.
The elegance and minerality of a white wine from the Crozes-Hermitage appellation
The estate
Located in Mercurol in the Rhône Valley, Domaine du Colombier was officially founded in 1991, marking the beginning of independent bottling by the Viale family, who have been present on these lands since 1929. Today, the estate is run by Florent Viale, a passionate winemaker, alongside his brother David. Spanning 16 hectares of vines, the estate is renowned for its traditional approach, meticulous manual work and its commitment to producing authentic wines that faithfully express the richness of their terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this Crozes-Hermitage wine come from plots located on the eastern slope of the famous Hermitage hill. The vines, with an average age of over 50 years, are planted at very high density on poor, steep soils composed of granite, clay, limestone, chalk and pebbles. The vineyard is cultivated using organic methods, with harvesting and vineyard work carried out entirely by hand, using traditional wooden stakes.
Winemaking and aging
The Crozes-Hermitage Domaine Blanc 2024 is vinified 80% in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and primary fruit aromas. The remaining 20% undergoes fermentation in oak barrels, adding subtle complexity and a delicate texture without masking the wine's identity. The bottles are sealed with natural cork.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Marsanne (85%) and Roussanne (15%).
