Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2023 by Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful ruby hue, at once clear and deep, illuminated by brilliant highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of red cherry, raspberry and plum, enhanced by orange zest and cinnamon. The whole is enriched by delicate floral touches of peony, along with roasted nuances and hints of vine smoke.
Palate
Full-bodied and velvety, the palate unfolds a core of crisp fruit supported by silky, remarkably fine tannins. Beautiful acidity brings energy to this wine, which extends into a particularly long, persistent and saline finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with flavourful meats such as braised lamb, beef filet mignon or duck breast with cherries. It also goes very well with game dishes, a truffle risotto, roasted root vegetables or soft-rind cheeses such as brie or reblochon.
Service and Storage
Endowed with great ageing potential, this Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2023 will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2038.
The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Burgundy Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a historic name in Burgundy. Now led by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, representing the seventh generation, the estate oversees an extensive vineyard spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Under their guidance, the estate has evolved its style towards wines that seek purity and terroir expression, while committing strongly to an environmental approach that has led to full organic certification.
The Vineyard
The plot dedicated to this wine is located in the "En Orveaux" climat of the Echezeaux appellation. South-facing and perched at altitude on a steep slope, the vines benefit from excellent natural drainage. They thrive on shallow marl soils resting on a bedrock of Bajocian limestone. The vines are carefully cultivated with respect for natural balance.
The Vintage
2023 stood out for its particularly warm weather conditions throughout the growing season. While above-average rainfall marked the start of the season, the end of summer was punctuated by heatwaves concentrated between late August and early September, allowing the berries to reach full ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
After hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting, the grapes destined for the Echezeaux Grand Cru "En Orveaux" 2023 are transferred by gravity into wooden vats. Vinification takes place naturally with indigenous and selected yeasts, accompanied by regular pumping-over and gentle pressing. The wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels.
