Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Porêts Saint-Georges" 2023 Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals an intense, deep ruby red.
Nose
Complex and rich, the nose exudes aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, mingled with delicate floral touches. Lovely mineral notes intertwine with woody nuances evoking vanilla and toasted oak.
Palate
The attack is crisp and silky, opening onto a round, powerful palate. The tannic texture proves remarkably fine, offering an enveloping sensation without ever being aggressive. Supported by a lovely freshness, the palate stretches into a persistent finish, marked by flavours of ripe black fruits and subtle spices.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine from France pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as pheasant or partridge, as well as with red meats in sauce. It also pairs perfectly with traditional slow-cooked dishes or characterful cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.
Service and Storage
Blessed with excellent ageing potential, this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Porêts Saint-Georges" 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth but will continue to gain complexity, drinking well until around 2048.
The Elegance and Depth of a Great Burgundy Wine by Domaine Faiveley
The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley embodies a remarkable family history at the heart of Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate spans a vast vineyard of 120 hectares spread across prestigious terroirs. Combining respect for tradition with a spirit of innovation, the estate has taken a major step forward by achieving full organic certification for all of its vines. This historic house thus continues to produce wines that combine power and elegance, while sustainably preserving its exceptional winegrowing heritage.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the historic climat of "Porêts", the first plots of which were acquired by the family in the 1830s. Located within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, this terroir benefits from an east-facing exposure that favours optimal grape ripening. The soils consist of deep brown limestone and gravel, enriched with iron elements, which give the wines a distinctive minerality and a well-defined structure.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by particularly warm temperatures, resulting in a generous harvest. Faced with above-average bunch weights, rigorous yield management was required, involving debudding and green harvesting. These mild climatic conditions allowed the berries to reach full ripeness while retaining the freshness essential to the wine's balance.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Porêts Saint-Georges" 2023 relies on a natural approach, favouring indigenous yeasts for fermentation. Transfers are carried out by gravity to preserve the integrity of the musts. The wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in the historic 19th-century vaulted cellars. It rests in lightly toasted French oak barrels, allowing for natural malolactic fermentation and a subtle integration of woody aromas.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
