Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023

Tasting notes

Appearance
The wine reveals a deep ruby red hue.

Nose
Powerful, the nose unveils a complex bouquet blending aromas of ripe fruit with warm spicy notes and toasted touches from its time in oak.

Palate
The attack is clean and supple, leading to a palate combining beautiful vibrancy with singular elegance. The mouth unfolds flavours of black fruit supported by fine, silky tannins. As the tasting progresses, this wine reveals a perfect balance between power and refinement.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich game such as jugged hare or roast venison, as well as with grilled red meats. It also enhances more delicate preparations such as beef carpaccio, mushroom or truffle-based dishes, and perfectly accompanies dark poultry such as roast or confit duck.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine between 14 and 16°C, ideally in a wide-bowled glass narrowing at the top. Approachable from its youth, this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023 has a solid structure allowing it to evolve in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2043.

The estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is a historic institution located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Ève Faiveley, the estate spans an extensive vineyard across Burgundy. Combining respect for tradition with a modern vision, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a plot located within the "Les Saint-Georges" climat, in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Facing south-east, the vines benefit from optimal sunshine while retaining a lovely freshness. The terroir is made up of complex soils blending marl, limestone debris and clay. The vineyard is home to vines of varying ages, thereby favouring the concentration of aromas.

The vintage

The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was marked by climatic conditions promoting excellent berry ripeness. This growing cycle yielded rich grapes, offering efficient fermentations while preserving the tension characteristic of the region.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023 relies on meticulous extraction techniques during maceration and fermentation. Extended maceration helps build a tannic structure suitable for ageing, while maturation in oak barrels enriches the aromatic profile with subtle spicy and toasted notes.
