An Elegant and Refined Volnay Premier Cru from Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is among the most prestigious estates in Burgundy. Now run by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, representing the seventh generation of the family, the estate spans around 127 hectares across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Under the guidance of its current owners and cellar master Jérôme Flous, the estate achieved organic certification starting with the 2025 vintage, confirming its commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture. Domaine Faiveley owns twelve Grands Crus and more than twenty Premiers Crus, including three monopoles, reflecting the excellence of its Burgundian vineyard heritage.

The Vineyard

The Volnay Premier Cru "Fremiets" comes from a 0.7-hectare plot located in the northern part of the Volnay appellation, mid-slope. The vineyard enjoys an east and southeast exposure on clay-limestone soil, an ideal composition for producing wines of great finesse. This distinctive terroir lends the wine its signature velvety texture, earning it the nickname "Chambolle of the Côte de Beaune". The vines, planted mainly in 1950 with a few replantings carried out in 2014, are harvested early to preserve the terroir’s natural elegance and the delicacy of the tannins.

The Vintage

The 2021 vintage in Burgundy fits a cool, classic profile. This year yielded balanced wines with fine natural acidity and a pure aromatic expression, faithfully reflecting the character of their original terroirs.

Winemaking and Aging

Following early harvesting designed to preserve the finesse of the terroir, the Volnay 1er Cru "Fremiets" 2021 is aged for 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels, around 30% of which are new. This measured approach to aging brings delicate structure to the wine while respecting the fruit expression and aromatic purity typical of the appellation.
