The elegance of a great schist terroir in the Rhône Valley
The estate
Founded in 2015, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is the result of the passionate work of its current owners, Graeme and Julie Bott. Starting from scratch, they patiently cleared and replanted steep hillsides to build a vineyard that now covers 12 hectares. Located in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley, the estate quickly established itself as one of the region's essential names. Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott stands out for its artisanal approach, meticulous viticulture and fierce determination to let the geological identity of each plot shine through.
The vineyard
This Côte-Rôtie comes from the renowned Côte Brune lieu-dit, known for its dizzyingly steep slopes and dark mica-schist soils. The vines, aged 40 to 45 years, draw their strength from deep within the ground. All work is done by hand, following the principles of organic farming. The vines are trained on individual stakes and pruned using the Guyot Poussard method to preserve their longevity. The soils are grassed over and spared deep ploughing in order to protect biodiversity and microbial life.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest for the Lieu-Dit Côte-Bodin 2023 is fully destemmed before fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 20 months in third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels, a deliberate choice that excludes new wood in order to preserve aromatic purity. Finally, it rests for an additional year in bottle in the estate's cellars before release.
Grape variety
100% Syrah.
