Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Volnay "Village" 2022 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol
Tasting
Colour
This red wine from France reveals a vivid, particularly luminous red hue, a radiant colour typical of its vintage year.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate scents of violet and blackcurrant bud. It then develops generous aromas of well-ripened red fruits, such as raspberry and redcurrant, intertwined with notes of blackberry.
Palate
The palate seduces with its roundness and velvety texture, supported by remarkably fine tannins. Beautiful acidity brings freshness to the whole, leading to a persistent finish with vanilla and candied nuances.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats, as well as with hard cheeses. It will also enhance refined dishes such as glazed poultry, filet mignon, or feathered game like gently braised quail. For bolder pairings, a tajine or a meat couscous will make excellent companions.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this Volnay "Village" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. While it shows beautifully after 3 to 7 years of cellaring, its aging potential allows it to evolve favourably until around 2032.
Other characteristics
This vintage has been praised by critics, notably earning a score of 16.5/20 from Jancis Robinson, who describes it as a distinguished wine.
The authentic expression of a Volnay terroir by Domaine Nicolas Rossignol
The estate
Founded in 1997, Domaine Nicolas Rossignol now spans 17 hectares in the heart of Burgundy. Representing the fifth generation of winegrowers in his family, Nicolas Rossignol, the current owner and manager, has skilfully combined age-old heritage with a contemporary vision. Drawing on extensive international experience, he brought about a genuine stylistic shift in the early 2000s to favour a purer expression of the terroirs. Equipped with a modern, bioclimatic winery since 2016, the estate is now recognised as a rising figure of the Côte de Beaune, producing precise and elegant wines.
The vineyard
The estate's historic plots are located in the commune of Volnay, the family's birthplace. Planted on the lower and middle slopes, at an altitude of around 275 metres, these vines, aged between 30 and 85 years, benefit from a beautiful south-east exposure, nestled against the Chaignot hillside. The vineyard is farmed using a sustainable approach inspired by lunar cycles, with no chemical herbicides, relying solely on ploughing to maintain the soils.
The vintage
The year 2022 stands out as a truly beautiful vintage for the entire Burgundy region. The climatic conditions of this growing cycle allowed for the harvest of berries offering an archetype of balance, ensuring optimal ripening for the production of wines with genuine aging potential.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of the Volnay "Village" 2022 begins with an entirely manual harvest in small crates. After rigorous sorting on a vibrating table, fermentation starts naturally through indigenous yeasts over a period of 6 to 8 days. True to its philosophy of infusion rather than extraction, the estate favours aging on fine lees for 10 to 20 months, without racking, with a proportion of new barrels ranging from 0 to 50%. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately delayed until spring, before bottling is carried out without fining or filtration.
