Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Tasting
Colour
Relatively pale for a grand cru, the colour illustrates the style distinctive to Nicole Lamarche.
Nose
The nose is expressive. It combines floral aromas with red fruits (strawberry, raspberry, red berries). Notes of dried herbs, white pepper and coffee grounds follow.
Palate
The palate is lively and fresh, with a well-defined red berry fruit character. The fine-grained, "weightless" tannins create a sensation that is both supple and light. Their athletic build gives the wine structure. The concentration is more pronounced than in the estate's premiers crus. The finish is long and vibrant, dominated by red fruit.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru pairs well with red meats, such as roast beef or a grilled cut. It also suits game, particularly game birds, and cheeses whose intensity does not overwhelm the finesse of Pinot Noir. Its freshness and delicate tannins also make it a good match for roast poultry or white meat with aromatic herbs, as well as for mushroom-based dishes.
Serving and Cellaring
This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is best served slightly cool, but not too cold. A temperature that is too low would tighten the tannins, while one that is too high would accentuate the alcohol. Decanting helps this young wine to relax and reveal its aromas.

The Estate
Based in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, Domaine Nicole Lamarche is a family-owned estate, formerly known as Domaine François Lamarche. It is now run by Nicole Lamarche, who succeeded her father François Lamarche. The estate extends between Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot. It holds La Grande Rue as a monopole, as well as parcels in Clos de Vougeot, Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux. The vines are farmed organically.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the Clos de Vougeot appellation, a vast walled vineyard that covers most of the vines of the village of Vougeot. It lies in the Côte de Nuits, next to Musigny, on a base of limestone and marl. The estate farms several parcels located at different points within the clos. One lies to the north-west, near the château, another to the south-east. This distribution offers a varied picture of the terroir. The vineyard is farmed organically, without synthetic products, with soil tillage and controlled grass cover. At harvest, a strict selection is carried out.
Winemaking and Ageing
The wine is aged in oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak that varies according to the vintage. It is bottled without fining or filtration, which may result in a slight sediment.
