Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2020 Domaine Perrot-Minot

Tasting notes

Colour
This red wine from France reveals an intense, deep ruby hue with crystalline clarity, adorned with subtle garnet reflections.

Nose
Displaying wonderful complexity, the bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of black raspberry and plum, harmoniously blended with floral notes of rose and peony. With aeration, delicate touches of exotic tea, spices and a pronounced minerality emerge.

Palate
Full-bodied and velvety, the attack offers a silky texture supported by tannins of great finesse. The palate unfolds with flavours of red and black berries, enriched with nuances of dark chocolate, cedar and spices. The perfectly balanced acidity brings lovely freshness, leading to a remarkably long and persistent finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with feathered game such as roast duck with figs, but also with characterful meats like beef Wellington, wild boar stew or roasted squab. As for cheese, it will elevate hard, well-aged varieties such as an aged Comté or a mature Gruyère.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2020, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 13 and 16°C depending on its evolution. With solid ageing potential, this wine can be kept and enjoyed until approximately 2045.

The elegance and precision of a great Burgundy Grand Cru

The estate

The history of Domaine Perrot-Minot is rooted in Burgundy, dating back to around 1750. Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the estate now spans approximately 13 hectares of vines. Since 1993, Christophe Perrot-Minot has been at the helm of the estate, carrying on a family heritage spanning twelve generations. Under his leadership, the estate has distinguished itself through an absolute quest for terroir expression, favouring very low yields and environmentally responsible viticulture, crowned by official organic certification in 2023.

The vineyard

The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze comes from a prestigious plot resting on clay-limestone soils. Situated at an altitude ranging between 240 and 280 metres, the vines, around fifty years old, benefit from an eastward exposure that protects them from humid winds while capturing the morning light. The vineyard is cultivated according to organic farming principles, with regular ploughing and short pruning to limit yields and concentrate the quality of the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2020 was marked by significant climatic contrasts. After a rainy autumn and a cold December, spring proved particularly mild, with a very warm May encouraging vine development. Summer was one of the hottest on record, punctuated by several heatwaves. However, the water reserves accumulated during winter allowed the vines to weather this period without excessive stress, leading to a harvest in late September under optimal ripeness conditions.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes for the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2020 are harvested by hand using small, perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. An extremely rigorous double sorting is carried out, first in the vineyard and then at the winery, to retain only perfect fruit. The winemaking process aims for gentle extraction, followed by ageing in which the use of new oak is carefully limited to allow the terroir to express itself with the greatest transparency.
