Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Ramonet
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a brilliant hue, ranging from straw yellow to pale gold.
Nose
The nose reveals lovely ripeness through aromas of citrus, particularly lemon, which intertwine harmoniously with notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot.
Palate
Ample and generously rich, the palate offers a remarkable balance between power and finesse. The aromatic expression carries through to a very long finish, underscored by delicate peppery touches and subtle oak.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with noble fish such as roast turbot with beurre blanc or sole meunière, as well as with shellfish such as lobster or scallops. It also makes an excellent match for white meats in sauce, such as poultry with cream and mushrooms, or aged hard cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
This Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 can be enjoyed in its early years for its vibrant fruit, but it has the structure to develop gracefully in the cellar until around 2042.
The Richness and Balance of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The Estate
Officially founded in 1930 by Pierre Ramonet, Domaine Ramonet is a leading figure in Burgundy, based in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet. This estate of nearly 20 hectares is now run by Jean-Claude Ramonet, who oversees the winemaking with his daughters Anne-France and Clarisse, while vineyard management is entrusted to Noël Ramonet and his sons. The estate stands out for its heritage of old vines and its sustainable practices, aimed at faithfully expressing the identity of each plot.
The Vineyard
The Bâtard-Montrachet plot covers 0.64 hectares on the lower part of the slope, straddling Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Facing east and south-east, the vines thrive on soils of limestone marl and brown clay, which offer excellent water retention. The estate follows sustainable farming methods, with regular soil cultivation and hand harvesting. To ensure optimal concentration, grapes from vines under 18 years old are systematically excluded from this cuvée.
The Vintage
2022 ranks among Burgundy's sun-drenched vintages. Although marked by spells of heat, the year nonetheless yielded fully ripe berries that retained lovely natural freshness at harvest.
Winemaking and Ageing
For this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022, fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak adjusted between 25 and 35%. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 12 to 15 months. Bâtonnage is used sparingly to enrich the texture while preserving tension and aromatic purity.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
