The pure expression of a great white Burgundy by Domaine Leflaive
The estate
Although the family's winegrowing roots date back to 1717, Domaine Leflaive was truly established in the 1920s under the impetus of Joseph Leflaive. Located in Puligny-Montrachet, France, this iconic Burgundy estate is renowned worldwide for the excellence of its white wines. A pioneer of biodynamics, which Anne-Claude Leflaive extended to all of its vines as early as 1997, the domaine is distinguished by its deep respect for terroir. Today, Brice de la Morandière, representing the fourth generation, heads the estate and carries on this pursuit of excellence, balancing tradition with technical innovation.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a single 0.94-hectare plot located above the hamlet of Escolles, within the Mâcon-Verzé appellation. Planted in 1965 and 1966, these old vines thrive on a gently sloping plateau at an altitude of around 300 metres. The terroir is characterised by clay-limestone soils that are particularly rich in flint. The entire vineyard is farmed according to the strict principles of biodynamics, promoting soil vitality and the authentic expression of this climat.
The vintage
2023 was marked by mild weather conditions, yielding a generous, high-quality harvest. Unlike the following year, which saw heavy rainfall, this vintage allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness, ensuring healthy, perfectly balanced grapes at harvest time.
Winemaking and ageing
The Mâcon-Verzé Village "Le Monte" 2023 is harvested entirely by hand. In the cellar, the bunches undergo a long, gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by 24 hours of settling and racking of the must. The musts are then transported daily to Puligny-Montrachet. Fermentation takes place 87% in concrete vats and 13% in new oak barrels. Ageing lasts 15 to 16 months in total: first 10 months on the lees in the fermentation vessels, after which the wine is racked and matured for a further 6 months in stainless steel tanks on fine lees. Homeopathic fining and light filtration are carried out only when necessary, before the wine is sealed with Diam technical corks.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
