Decanter

Rich and mineral, loads of puppy fat yet good freshness. The sweetness from the oak melds well with the dried fruits. A very good, fresh and vibrant vintage of La Doriane, the generous oak spice is inlaid throughout. Long and precise. From the lieux-dits Côte Chatillon, Chéry, Vernon, Colombier and Volan. All aged in new oak barriques.

Vinous

Nicolas Greinacher

The 2024 Condrieu La Doriane brings together grapes from five different lieux-dits (Côte Chatillon, Vernon, Chéry, Verlieu and Volan) and is aged for ten months in 100% new oak barriques. Pronounced flintstone, lightly ripe apricot, white peach and melon lead the aromatics. Richly weighted, concentrated and dense, the 2024 is a gorgeous La Doriane, carrying its final notes forward with impressive persistence on the long, lingering finish.

The estate

The E. Guigal estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, succeeded him in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation carries on the legacy and values of this family-run Maison, emblematic of the Rhône Valley. Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage: the E. Guigal estate cultivates a mosaic of vineyards across numerous appellations, offering a range of wines of impeccable quality. Over the vintages, Maison E. Guigal has grown significantly, notably becoming the owner in 1995 of the famed Château d’Ampuis, as well as several estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine, and Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

The vineyard

A benchmark among the great Condrieu wines, La Doriane by E. Guigal comes from five prime terroirs within the appellation (Côte Chatillon, Chery, Vernon, Volan, Colombier). The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on steep terraces, on soils dominated by granite (biotite granite, muscovite granite).

Winemaking and aging

Fermentations are carried out exclusively in new oak barrels with strict temperature control, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Aging continues for 12 months in new barriques.

Grape variety

100% Viognier.
