The authentic and refined expression of a Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru by Frédéric Esmonin

The estate

Located in France, in the heart of Burgundy, the estate was officially established in 1988. Spanning around four hectares of vineyards, this family-run property is now managed by Frédéric Esmonin, supported by his father André in the vineyard and his mother Michele. Recognised by connoisseurs for its excellent value for money, the estate stands out for its considered approach and its commitment to allowing the terroir to express itself fully, away from the media spotlight.

The vineyard

This Gevrey-Chambertin wine comes from a plot of old vines growing on clay-limestone soils, at an altitude of between 280 and 350 metres. This terroir benefits from cool air currents flowing through the valley, promoting optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving a lovely natural acidity. The estate favours mechanical soil management, with no herbicides, and uses natural composts.

The vintage

The year enjoyed exceptional weather conditions. Flowering took place under the best possible circumstances, allowing the fruit to reach optimal ripeness at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. The berries are fully destemmed before undergoing a four- to five-day cold maceration. This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru "Les Champonnets" 2023 is aged in French oak barrels sourced from the forests of Allier and Nevers, for a period of fourteen to seventeen months. The wine is neither filtered nor racked before being prepared for bottling.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
