Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos de Jeanne" Tête de Cru 2023 by J.-A. Ferret

Tasting

Nose
This wine reveals a bouquet that is both intense and complex, marked by great freshness. Enticing notes of citrus zest intertwine with subtle mineral touches.

Palate
The attack reveals a charming and indulgent profile, with a beautiful roundness. True to its terroir, this wine offers a superb balance between tension and opulence, ending on a pure and particularly mouth-watering finish.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as oysters and shellfish, as well as with a seafood risotto. It also perfectly accompanies poultry or veal served with a cream sauce, or goat cheeses and aged hard cheeses.

The elegance of a great Pouilly-Fuissé crafted by J.-A. Ferret

The estate
Founded in 1840, the J.-A. Ferret estate is a true institution in Burgundy, located in the heart of the Mâconnais. Spanning around 17 hectares, the property rose to prominence thanks to Jeanne Ferret, a pioneer of plot-by-plot vinification. Acquired in 2008 by the renowned Louis Jadot house, the brand continues to shine through its excellence. Since 2023, Clément Robinet has been at the helm of the estate, a year that also marked its official certification in organic farming. This historic estate thus brilliantly combines centuries-old traditions with sustainable viticulture.

The vineyard
The "Clos de Jeanne" plot, covering 0.64 hectare, lies at the heart of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, more precisely within the 1er Cru "Les Perrières". Nestled on a gentle slope between the estate's house and the village church, it benefits from a fine east-facing exposure. The vines, cultivated organically and harvested by hand, are divided into two parts: half are 35 years old, while the other half are over 50 years old. The deep, stone-free soil is silty-clay in nature, derived from residual clays, and rests on limestone and marl-limestone beds at depth. It is the smallest of the estate's Têtes de Cru and Hors Classe.

The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by the largest harvest ever recorded in the history of the region. Despite intense heat at the end of the summer, weather conditions allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, delivering an ideal balance for this vintage.

Vinification and ageing
The crafting of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos de Jeanne" Tête de Cru 2023 is based on a rigorous plot-by-plot approach. Fermentation and the first ageing take place in oak barrels (composed of 25% new barrels and 75% barrels of one to three wines) for 10 months. The wine then benefits from a further 9 months of ageing in stainless steel tanks on its lees, before bottling scheduled for April 2025.
