Description
Tasting notes and characteristics of L'Esprit de Chevalier red 2025
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens with beautiful intensity, blending red and black berries with notes of fresh humus.
Palate
On the palate, the wine already proves charming through its smoothness and accessibility. A dense structure, carried by noble tannins, hints at significant ageing potential. The balance is remarkable, with a generous aromatic richness that remains true to the identity of the Chevalier terroir.
A complex and balanced Second Wine red from Pessac-Léognan
The estate
Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the magnificent Domaine de Chevalier ranks among the very finest Classified Growths of Bordeaux. The estate lies at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, set within a verdant haven south of Bordeaux. L'Esprit de Chevalier is the estate's second wine.
The vineyard
Domaine de Chevalier is a Pessac-Léognan wine produced from a rare 67-hectare vineyard, resting on a gravel terroir with clay-gravel subsoils, 60 hectares of which are dedicated to red wine. Since 1986, the young vines have been devoted to ripening the berries that go into the blend of the estate's second wine, L'Esprit de Chevalier.
The vintage
The 2025 vintage benefited from exceptional weather conditions: a rainy winter ensuring good water reserves, a mild spring favouring an early and even flowering, followed by a hot, dry summer allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest, staggered from late August to 26 September, took place in excellent conditions, with satisfying yields. The result is wines of great aromatic richness, combining freshness, complexity and elegance, in both white and red.
Vinification and ageing
After the manual harvest in small crates, during which a meticulous selection is carried out in the vineyard, the berries are sorted once again at the cellar before and after destemming. The grapes are vinified in stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats before ageing in barrels for 14 months. Alcohol content: 12.5% vol.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (60%)
Merlot (35%)
Petit Verdot (5%).
