The authentic expression of Crozes-Hermitage terroir by Les Alexandrins
The estate
Founded in 2015 through the partnership of Nicolas Jaboulet, Alexandre Caso and Guillaume Sorrel, the Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins is based in Tain-l'Hermitage, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. Now led by Nicolas Jaboulet and Alexandre Caso, the estate stands out for its commitment to producing wines that embody pure classicism, steering clear of excessive power. The estate, which farms its vines organically, strives to faithfully reflect the diversity of its terroirs through cuvées that combine freshness, precision and elegance.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Crozes-Hermitage cuvée come from plots located in the southern part of the appellation, more specifically in the areas of Beaumont Monteux and the lieu-dit Les Pends, near Mercurol. This terroir is characterised by alluvial plains composed of rolled pebbles, sandy clays and river stones that encourage concentration while preserving acidity. The entire vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with meticulous soil work carried out to stimulate biodiversity.
The vintage
The year began with very low water reserves following the previous year's drought. Spring brought intense rainfall, leading to strong disease pressure and requiring relentless work in the vineyards. After a hailstorm affected certain areas in July, the end of August was marked by a historic heatwave. Fortunately, welcome rainfall in mid-September allowed the grapes to complete ripening under optimal conditions, bringing perfect balance to the fruit.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Crozes-Hermitage "Maison" 2023 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration to gently develop the wine's aromatics. Fermentation is then carried out with rigorous temperature control in stainless steel tanks. Aging takes place over ten months, divided between conical vats and 60-litre French oak demi-muids. This choice of vessels, favouring used barrels, helps preserve the freshness of the fruit while adding subtle complexity to the final blend.
