The Estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, Louis Latour remains an independent family-owned estate run by the 11th generation of the Latour family. Descended from a line of coopers established since 1731, the estate has built the largest vineyard holding of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or. This Burgundian house embodies two centuries of winegrowing excellence in Burgundy, combining innovation and tradition.
The Vineyard
The "Vignes Franches" climat gets its name from the historical exemption from land taxes that this terroir once enjoyed. Located mid-slope in the commune of Beaune, this Beaune vineyard lies on clay-limestone soils enriched with fine gravel, which promotes excellent drainage. The vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive on this privileged terroir, which combines the opulence of neighboring Pommard wines with a very pleasant fruitiness.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are harvested by hand and then traditionally vinified in open vats. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full. The wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with 25% new oak of medium toast.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir
