Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Chatelots" 2013 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals an elegant garnet hue, typical of a mature Pinot Noir, enhanced by subtle orange highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with spring-like and peppery notes. It then unfolds with beautiful complexity, blending aromas of blackcurrant bud, blackberry and liquorice, enriched by a mineral touch reminiscent of damp moss after the morning dew.
Palate
The attack is round and perfectly balanced. The palate offers a lovely expression of small red and black fruits, supported by a refined tannic structure and an elegant minerality that extends into a harmonious finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine will pair wonderfully with characterful dishes such as a duck shepherd's pie with truffles, a roasted capon, or game such as woodcock salmis or wild boar with cranberries. As for cheeses, its finesse will enhance the richness of a Brillat-Savarin.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Chatelots" 2013, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17 °C.
The elegance of a great Burgundy wine from the Chambolle-Musigny terroir by Louis Latour
The estate
Founded in 1797 and located in Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, the Louis Latour House is a true historical institution. At the helm of this independent family estate today is the twelfth generation, with Eléonore Latour, appointed brand director, and Louis-Fabrice Latour. Boasting a 48-hectare vineyard, including the largest area of Grands Crus in the region, the estate stands out for its own artisanal cooperage and its pioneering commitment to sustainable viticulture. This highly renowned House embodies Burgundian excellence and tradition throughout the world.
The vineyard
The Climat "Les Chatelots", located at the heart of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, lies on a shallow yet intensely mineral clay-limestone soil. This specific terroir, whose name evokes its historical ability to retain water, provides ideal growing conditions for the vines, which average 35 years of age. Yields are rigorously controlled at 35 hl/ha, and the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand to preserve the integrity and quality of the berries.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage in Burgundy demanded great rigour and meticulous selection work from the winegrowers. Weather conditions required constant attention, but allowed the finest producers to harvest grapes offering superb balance and beautiful structure, elevating this vintage to the level of the region's greatest recent years.
Vinification and ageing
The making of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Chatelots" 2013 begins with traditional fermentation in open vats, followed by 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine then benefits from 10 to 12 months of ageing in medium-toast French oak barrels, 40% of which are new. These barrels come exclusively from the Louis Latour cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery of the interaction between wood and wine.
Grape variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
