Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" Château de Blagny 2018 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a lovely pale yellow hue, reminiscent of bright straw yellow.
Nose
The nose opens with a generous bouquet of white peach and honey, enhanced by notes of crisp green fruit and lime zest. Subtle touches of roasted almond and toasted hazelnut complete this rich aromatic palette.
Palate
Full-bodied and generous, the palate offers a creamy, round texture. It unfolds with delicious notes of stone fruit and melon, perfectly balanced by great freshness. The finish stands out for its beautiful tension and lingering length.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as lobster, salmon with sorrel or pan-fried girolles. It will also go very well with pressed or soft cheeses, such as a mature Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" Château de Blagny 2018, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to develop favourably until around 2026.
A Great White Burgundy by Louis Latour
The Estate
The family's winemaking history began in 1731, but the House of Louis Latour was officially founded in 1797. Located in Burgundy, this independent family-owned estate looks after a 48-hectare vineyard, including 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest estate of this rank in the Côte d'Or. Now led by Florent Latour, the house is distinguished by its commitment to sustainable viticulture and by its own cooperage, which ensures a masterfully controlled style.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the "Château de Blagny" climat, a monopole of the house, situated at altitude on the hill overlooking the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The vines, around thirty years old, thrive on soils made up of stony marl and Jurassic limestone. The estate practises certified sustainable viticulture, without chemical fertilisers, herbicides or insecticides, thereby promoting biodiversity and the pure expression of the terroir.
The Vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by a warm, sunny climate, which favoured a high level of grape ripeness. Thanks to the altitude and the privileged exposure of the hillside, the berries retained a lovely natural acidity, offering a perfect balance between richness and freshness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for this Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" Château de Blagny 2018 are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place traditionally in oak barrels, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for eight to ten months in French oak barrels, around 35% of which are new, crafted by the house's own cooperage with a medium toast.
