The estate
Founded in 1797 in Aloxe-Corton, Maison Louis Latour has remained an independent family-owned house for eleven generations. With around 50 hectares of vineyards, including 28 hectares of Grands Crus (the largest holding in Burgundy), it combines the roles of estate and négociant. Florent Latour currently heads the company, until Eléonore Latour, representing the twelfth generation, takes the reins. The house stands out for its pioneering role in planting Chardonnay in Corton-Charlemagne and for its historic vat house dating from 1832, the first purpose-built winery in France. Louis Latour embodies Burgundian excellence and tradition.
The vineyard
The Meursault vineyard lies in the Côte de Beaune and is the largest white wine-producing commune in the southern Côte-d'Or. The "Poruzots" climat, whose name derives from "Porroux", meaning stony place, reflects the rocky nature of its terroir. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted in marl and limestone soil with a full southern exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand, with an average yield of 40 hectolitres per hectare.
Winemaking and ageing
The Meursault 1er cru "Poruzots" 2023 is traditionally vinified in oak barrels and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for 8 to 10 months in medium-toast French oak barrels from Tonnellerie Louis Latour, 50% of which are new.
Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is made from Chardonnay.
